Our Community
The Salesian fathers, religious sisters, associations and sub-station communities that make up the parish family of Thennangudi.
The Fathers
Fr. Anto Sagaya Raj, SDB
Parish Pastoral Council, all pious associations, Anbiams, liturgy and choir.
Fr. Samson, SDB
Pastoral care of the sub-station communities.
Fr. Anand, SDB
Sunday catechism and BIS correspondent.
Partners in the Mission
The Theresian Carmelite Sisters (CTC) have served in our parish for many years — in Sunday catechism, the Anbiams, evening Masses in the sub-stations and the summer camps. They also run a dispensary and an English-medium elementary school. Holy Mass is celebrated in their convent every Wednesday at 6.15 am.
The Sisters of the Immaculate (the "Blue Sisters") from Idayalaya, Dharmapuram, help spread the Gospel through Friday evening services, sub-station missions and penitential services, and are forming new Anbiams in Mel Subrayapuram, Surakudi, Arulmozhidevan and Neivachery.
Parish Groups
Parish Pastoral Council
Representatives of the sub-stations and associations who plan and coordinate the pastoral life of the parish with the fathers.
Anbiams (BCC)
Basic Christian Communities in every sub-station — small neighbourhood groups that meet to pray, share the Word of God and support one another.
Legion of Mary
Meets every week after the Sunday Mass — prayer, Marian devotion and apostolic visits to families.
St. Vincent de Paul Society
Meets weekly after Sunday Mass to serve the poor and the sick of the parish with charity and dignity.
Holy Family Association
Strengthening Christian marriage and family life in the sub-stations.
Altar Servers
About 30 boys and girls from eight sub-stations, meeting every third Sunday to learn to serve at the altar. Four have expressed a desire to become Salesian priests; two are in the aspirantate at Tirupattur.
Sunday Catechism & Catechists
Volunteer catechists teach the children of every sub-station each Sunday; they meet in the first week of every month to prepare.
Youth Group
An active youth group at the parish church, with leadership and value-education days for the young people (15–35) of all the sub-stations.
Choir & Liturgy
The parish choir leads the singing at Sunday Mass and the great feasts; lectors and liturgy animators from the sub-stations serve at the altar.
Fourteen Sub-stations, One Family
The parish is spread over 14 sub-stations covering 17 villages. Eleven of them have their own chapel — some very old, built by the missionaries of earlier centuries, others rebuilt in recent years. Each sub-station has its own traditions and its own patronal feast.
